$10,000 Grant at David Kato Vision & Voice Award in the field of Human Rights

The David Kato Vision & Voice Award is awarded annually to an individual who demonstrates courage and outstanding leadership in advocating for the sexual rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people, particularly in environments where these individuals face continued rejection, marginalization, isolation and persecution. The award will be accompanied by a one-time grant of $10,000. The award recipient will be invited to accept the award at a key annual event.

Nominations for the award are accepted for any individual whose leadership and life work has directly contributed to addressing the sexual rights of LGBTI people in their community. An individual can be self nominated or be nominated by an individual or organization familiar with the nominee’s work. Nominations must be submitted online and can be completed in English, French or Spanish.

Applications must be submitted by 31 August 2012 (23:59 GMT) and according to the nomination guidelines.

Nominations for the award are accepted for any individual whose leadership and life work has directly contributed to addressing the sexual rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people in their community.

      - Nominees will be assessed according to the following five key criteria:
      -  Proven leadership in promoting the sexual rights of LGBTI people;
      -  Evidence of commitment to issue;
      -  Demonstrated courage in overcoming obstacles;
      -  Ability to inspire and be an example to others; and
      -  Pioneering approach to work.

In addition, the nominations will be assessed according to the potential for the award to:
      -  Strengthen the nominee’s efforts; and
      -  Enhance visibility and public awareness.

All nominations for the 2013 David Kato Vision & Voice Award must be submitted by the deadline: 31 August 2012 (23:59 GMT).
