Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR): Senior Minority Fellowship Program

Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights(OHCHR) has announced Senior Minorities Fellowshipprogram for those persons belonging to national or ethnic, religious or linguistic minority groups. The missions of this program is to get -depth understanding and appreciation of the international human rights system and mechanisms, especially those dealing with minority issues, through work experience with IPMS. Fellowship will be conducted in Geneva, Switzerland. Fluency in English is required.

The Senior Fellow is expected to return to his/her country with an enhanced set of skills and expertise to contribute towards the promotion and protection of human rights of persons belonging to minorities at the national, regional or international level.


Fellowship offers-

Monthly stipend that will cover basic living expenses in Geneva, as well as return ticket home and basic health insurance

Eligibility & Criteria-
  • Candidates must belong to a national, ethnic, religious or linguistic minority group. They should also have-
  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in law, political sciences, international relations or related fields.
  • A minimum of four (4) years of work experience in the field of minority rights. Proven research and drafting skills are highly desirable. Experience in building the capacity of NGOs and other civil society actors will be an asset.
  • Candidates must be fluent in English. Other language skills including Spanish, French or Arabic are highly desirable.

Documents required-
A duly completed application form (Page 3-6 of this document).
A letter of motivation (maximum 2 pages), in which the candidates will introduce themselves – mentioning the minority community to which they belong, explaining their expectations and what they hope to achieve through this fellowship as well as what they expect to do to promote minority rights upon return.
A letter of recommendation, supporting the application and proving that the applicant has the necessary experience, and contact details of additional two reference persons.

ILO’s Work4Youth International Photo Contest

Photographers are invited to participate in International Photo Contest Work4Youth organized by International Labour Organization (ILO) and The MasterCardFoundation. The aim of this objective is to capture youthemployment issues and highlight the challenges young women and men face in the work place, as well as their resilience and innovation for overcoming the challenges.

In a creative and original way applicant’s photo(s) should capture youth at work (different places and conditions) and highlight employment challenges and resilience. Issues related to the themes of: poor working conditions;gender barriers; discrimination; informality; entrepreneurship; working poverty; migration; precarious work; rural economy, among others, are welcomed. Applicants are allowed to submit up to a maximum of 5 photos.


Thematic areas-
  • Enthralling, enlightening and edifying moments of young workers/ job seekers
  • Indiscernible and hidden moments that provide insights into young workers/job seekers’ experiences in the labour market
  • Uplifting, contagious enthusiasm and inimitable energy of young job seekers/ workers
  • Visions and expectations of young people

Eligibility & Criteria-
  • A maximum of 5 photos may be submitted by a photographer
  • Photographers must be the sole author of the entries and hold all intellectual property rights to them
  • To participate in the contest, photographers must be aged 18 years or older and residing in the eligible countries.
  • To enter the contest – ALL entries must include the OFFICIAL ENTRY FORM and must submit photos via email stating full name, age, sex and country
  • The photographers must have received permission in writing from the subject(s) in the photos agreeing to the terms and conditions of the “WORK4YOUTH” photo contest
  • Photos must be submitted with a title, date shot, location and caption
  • Entries will only be accepted in digital format and must not be digitally enhanced or manipulated in any way
  • Image files should be 10 megabytes or smaller, must be in JPEG or .jpg format, and must be at least 1,600 pixels wide (if a horizontal image) or 1,600 pixels tall (if a vertical image)
  • Photos that have won awards in other photographic contests will not be considered
  • Photos that have been published will not be considered
  • Employees of the ILO are not eligible to participate in the contest
  • When entering the photo contest photographers agree to the terms and conditions

Prize-
  • Global: A selection made from all photo entries
  • Best photo: USD 1000
  • Second best photo: USD 500
  • Youth prize (entries of persons aged 18-29 years): USD 800
  • Regional: A selection made from photo entries from the Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) region
  • CEE best photo: USD 1000
  • CEE youth prize (entries of persons aged 18-29 years): USD 800

MUIS Scholarships in Australia for International Students

Macquarie University International Scholarships (MUIS) are available across most courses to cover international tuition fees for study in an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree at the University.

Scholarship value/inclusions:

MUIS covers international tuition fees for study on campus in an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree. The scholarship provides course fees for the minimum course duration.

The scholarship does NOT provide financial support in the form of a living allowance, nor does it provide for the cost of visa application, Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), airfares, accommodation, conferences or other costs associated with study.


Eligibility:

Applicants must:

• Be a citizen of a country other than Australia or New Zealand.
• Have met the University’s academic and English requirements for the course to be considered for a scholarship (must hold a FULL OFFER by the application deadline).
• Have achieved a minimum GPA of 3.7 (out of 4.0) for Postgraduate applications and minimum requirement of 92 (out of 100) for Undergraduate applications.

You are not eligible if:

• You are a citizen of Australia or New Zealand, or hold permanent residency of Australia.
• You are currently enrolled at Macquarie University for a program which is equivalent in level.
• You have undertaken the same level or a higher level of study previously.
• You are currently enrolled in the program that you apply the MUIS for.
• You are in receipt of another equivalent or major award or scholarship.
• You are a Study Abroad or an Exchange student coming to Macquarie University.

Applicants must hold a FULL OFFER for the course by the MUIS deadline to be considered for the scholarship. Applicants must complete a course application form plus a scholarship application form online.

Applications for September 2013 intake must be submitted by 30 April 2013 while applicants must also submit their course application form by 1 April 2013.
