Criteria for submission of Digital Contest

The EE5 Conference invites you to submit your most innovative and entertaining short-form digital production on the following topic:

Motivating behavior change around any health topic.

Submission Guidelines

1. Eligibility

Entry is open to any individual, group, or company (profit or non-profit) in any country, except for staff of the EE5 Conference.

The submission needs to have been produced after January 1, 2000. The copyright should be with the individual or group that submits the product.  There should be no other claims of ownership or authorship on the product.

2. Formats accepted

Submissions may be made in any of the following digital media:

• Audio (radio, recorded voice, music)
• Video
• Digital games
• Other audio/visual (slide presentations, etc.)

Formats supported:
Windows Media Video (.AVI), .3GP (mobile phones), .WMV (windows), .MOV (mac), .MP4 (iPod/PSP), .MPEG, .FLV (Adobe Flash), .MKV (h.264)

3. Length of submission

Maximum length of any submission in any medium is Three (3) minutes.

4. Deadline for submission

Midnight, September 30, 2011.

5. Judging and Awards

There will be two forms of judging for all submissions:

• Peer review of top ten finalists by the public at large, through voting on Facebook. The top ten submissions will be publicly available on the official EE5 Facebook Page from October 15, 2011.
• A panel of judges selected by the organizers of the EE5 conference.  These judges will review and rate all submissions. Celebrity judges involved in the field of EE will also select the winners.

Awards will be given as follows:

• Judge’s awards:  There will be five (5) winners selected by the panel of judges.  All media will be judged and selected for these awards.
• Under 25 award: Judges will award one (1) special award to an entry submitted by someone under 25 years old.
• People’s Picks:  Five (5) winners will be selected by simple vote tally of public votes submitted to the EE5 digital contest committee through EE5 Facebook page.
• Honorable mentions:There will be five (5) honorable mentions.

Submission Process:

• Upload your digital media file onto YouTube: http://upload.youtube.com/my_videos_upload
• Send an email to plee@jhsph.edu with “EE5 digital media contest entry” in the subject line.

Each EE5 digital medial contest email entry must include:

• The YouTube link to your video
• An introductory paragraph explaining the behavior the submission is attempting to change (50 word limit).
• Primary person responsible for the submission and contact information (including age, sex, and country).
• The client (if any) for whom the entry was created
• Source of funding for the production
• The project or campaign of which it was/is part (if applicable)

Other Information and Important Dates:

All media files should be uploaded and official email entries submitted by September30, 2011.

EE5 digital media contest winners will be announced pending verification of eligibility and submission by the filmmakers of all necessary legal clearances and actor releases

By participating in this contest, entrants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and by the decisions of the judges appointed by the 5th International Entertainment Education Conference. Decisions of the judges are final and binding.

• Incomplete entries or entries longer than 3 minutes will be ineligible for judging.
• EE5 staff will not acknowledge receipt of entries.
• EE5 and the Center for Communication Programs reserve the right to verify the eligibility of the winning entries.
• All entries become the property of the 5th International Entertainment Education Conference.
• This Contest is subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws.
• EE5 and the Center for Communications Programs reserve the right to change these contest rules and/or contest dates at any time without additional notice.

Limitations of Liability: By entering this Contest, entrant holds harmless all released parties, and Contest sponsors (EE5 and the Center for Communication Programs) from any liability whatsoever for any claims, costs, injuries, losses, liability, actions, or damages of any kind or in connection with: (1) entering the Contest or (2) anything related to the Contest. Online course on “Essentials on Anti-Corruption and Human Development”

Online course on “Essentials on Anti-Corruption and Human Development”

It is a pleasure for the UNDP Virtual School to inform you about the new 10-week online course on “Essentials on Anti-Corruption and Human Development” that will be launched in September of 2011. This course is the first UNDP training initiative that provides analytical and practical tools on anticorruption from a human development perspective and promotes a comparative analysis of corruption practices around the globe.

The overall objective of the course is to provide participants with essential conceptual knowledge as well as analytical and practical skills on anti-corruption programming including assessment and measurement of corruption.

10 weeks and needs dedication of 10 hours a week

Cost:

The course is 80% financed by UNDP. Students interested to participate are expected to co-pay 150 USD.

Requirements:

Interested candidates should meet the following requirements:

• Be working on projects/initiatives related to Anti-Corruption, Transparency and Human Development issues.
• Computer availability, Internet access.
• Students need 10 hours per week in order to read, discuss in the course forums and participate in the course activities.
• Be proficient in English

Students must first register in the Virtual School database by completing the online form in the following link:

Development”. Remember the fields/boxes that are marked with a (*) are mandatory. Once completed, click on “Submit”.

The system will show a message as follows: You have been successfully registered on the course: “Essentials on Anticorruption and Human Development”. The message confirms that the registration process is completed.

Instructions regarding the 20% of the payment will be sent to students selected to participate.

Mid-career journalists can apply for a fellowship at the University of Michigan

Mid-career journalists can apply for a fellowship at the University of Michigan.

The Knight-Wallace Journalism Fellowship, sponsored by the University of Michigan, brings exceptional journalists from the U.S. and abroad together for a year of academic study. Fellows devise a personalized plan of study with access to the courses and resources at the university.

Typically, 12 Americans are joined by six international colleagues. Fellows must obtain a leave of absence from September 1 through April and then return to their place of employment.

Applicants must have at least five years of professional experience. Print, broadcast and online journalists are eligible to apply. Fellows receive $US70,000 and have their tuition and travel costs covered by the program.

Photo contest on democracy

The World Youth Movement for Democracy

Photographers worldwide can enter a contest.

The World Youth Movement for Democracy is pleased to announce the launch of its Global Photo Contest. Fifteen semi-finalists will be announced on December 1 2011 and will have their winning photo published on the WYMD Web site.

The purpose of this contest is to demonstrate understanding of the workings of democracy in daily life by capturing images to create change for your community.

One finalist will be selected from each category through online open voting for a total of three finalists. Categories are: * Building a Movement * Democracy in Action * Youth Igniting Change

The final results of the contest will be announced December 15, 2011. Finalists will be provided with sponsorship to cover their travel and other expenses to participate in the Seventh Assembly of the World Movement for Democracy in October 2012.

Citizen journalism contest offers $5000, fellowships

Entrepreneurs with citizen journalism projects can enter a competition.

Ashoka Changemakers and Global Voices, with the support of Google, is seeking innovations in citizen media.

Four entries will receive a cash prize of US $5,000. Top entrants will be considered for an Ashoka Fellowship — complete with a three-year living stipend, international recognition and access to a network of systems-changing social entrepreneurs.

Entries can be submitted in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Thai, Indonesian, Mandarin or Japanese.

Grants available for documentary projects

NEXT DEADLINE: 15 January 2012

The Jan Vrijman Fund is looking for creative documentaries and documentary events in developing countries. When selecting projects, the fund strives to have a minimum of 18% of the selected projects from countries from the two left columns on the DAC list (Least Developed Countries and Lower Income Countries). Furthermore applicants should be aware that the fund’s current budget does not allow to select more than 8% of the projects submitted.

Application Deadlines The Jan Vrijman Fund gives financial support twice a year.
Application deadlines are January 15 and May 15.
To apply you need to:

1. Read the regulations below to see if your project meets the basic criteria
2. Fill out an entryform (available at MyIDFA)
3. Send all requested materials depending on the category that you’re applying for to janvrijmanfund@idfa.nl (see all categories and requested materials below)

Regulations

1. The director should have the nationality of a developing country and live and work in a developing country, as defined on the DAC list. In addition the production company attached to the project must be based in a country on the DAC list. PLEASE NOTE: as of June 2008, filmmakers from Croatia cannot apply anymore.
2. If a production company from a non-DAC list country is attached to the project, it is also necessary that the project has a producer and production company in a developing country. In this case, the application to the fund must be filed by the producer in the developing country.
3. A project can be submitted only once for the category Script and Project Development and once for the category Production and Post-production.
4. Projects rejected for a production contribution can apply again for a post-production contribution, but only if the application is accompanied by a rough-cut of at least 20 minutes.
5. If a project is selected, the contribution must be spent in a developing country and all distribution rights for the Benelux countries must be reserved for the Jan Vrijman Fund.
6. When applying for Other Activities, the event must take place in a country on the DAC-list. Also the organiser and organisation of the event must be based in a country on the DAC-list. 
7. The event should not take place or start within three months after the deadline. 
8. In the category Other Activities the following countries can not apply anymore:Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Mexico.
9. Entry forms must be filled out in English, and all additional material should be in English as well. Only for applications coming from French-speaking African countries and Haiti, the Fund offers the possibility to submit the applications in French.
10. The application should preferably be sent by e-mail as a file attachment. It is also possible to send the application by regular post.
11. Applications must be in our office no later than on the date of the deadline. DVD’s and vimeo or youtube links can arrive until 1 week after the deadline. Make sure that the documents and additional materials are complete and clearly marked with the project title.

Categories
Script and Project Development A contribution for Script and Project Development can be spent on research and on the development of a script and/or on the production of a trailer. The maximum contribution for script and project development is €5.000.
Applications should be accompanied by:

• Entryform (to be filled out on MyIDFA)
• Application Form Script and Project Development 
• If posible max. 1 DVD with previous work.

Production and Post-production
The maximum contribution for this category is €17.500.
Applications should be accompanied by:

• Entryform (to be filled out on MyIDFA)
• Application Form Production and Postproduction
• DVD with audiovisual material from the project with english subtitles OR a link to Vimeo or Youtube. (i.e. a trailer, an edited sequence, an introduction of the character(s)) NO HD DVD. 
  Filmmakers from African countries (except South Africa) can also send stills of the project (by email) instead of audiovisual material.
• In case of an application for post-production only (after shooting is finished): a DVD with the rough cut or edited sequences of at least 20 minutes with english subtitles OR an upload on Vimeo or Youtube.
• In case of a co-production: a copy of the signed co-production agreement.

Other activities
PLEASE NOTE that, in the category Other Activities the following countries cannot apply anymore: Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Mexico.
Furthermore preference will be given to initiatives from countries from the two left columns of the DAC list (the Least Developed Countries and Other Low Income Countries) or countries in conflict areas.

The Jan Vrijman Fund is looking for local documentary related events which stimulate the documentary film climate in developing countries. The following activities will be considered for financial support:

• Distribution initiatives: Film screenings, preferably of local or regional documentaries, such as mobile cinemas, travelling film festivals or special screenings in remote or conflict areas. Overall, the fund is receptive to alternative and innovative ideas, as long as these are well-founded in a clear plan of implementation.
• Documentary film festivals: Film festivals that aim to promote the documentary film genre and that act as a meeting point for local filmmakers and audiences.
• Documentary workshops: Workshops for filmmakers and/or producers from non-Western countries as defined by the DAC list, dedicated to documentary script development, production and/or distribution and sales.

The maximum contribution is €15.000.
Applications should be accompanied by:

• Entryform (to be filled out on MyIDFA)
• Application Form Film Festivals / Application Form Workshops / Application Form Distribution
