A fellowship in New York City will provide journalism educators with techniques for preparing students to report on the sensitive nature of human tragedy. Deadline: March 26.

The program will be held June 17 through 19 at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in New York City, through the U.S.-based Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma.

The program will include seminars and trainings involving the latest research on the science of trauma, techniques for effectively gathering the details of tragedies, and coping mechanisms for journalists who cover these difficult stories.

Those eligible are college and university journalism faculty working in the regions of Dart Center programs -- North America, Europe and Australasia. Program facilitators will select 12 educators to participate in the fellowship. The Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma will provide airfare and hotel accommodations in New York City. After the seminar, fellows will receive up to US$500 each to create educational projects at their home institutions.
