Seeking papers for the conference on the topic development-induced displacement and resettlement in which all the developed and the developing nations are invited.
In view of the conference theme, “bridging research and practice, filling the knowledge gaps”, papers facilitating cross-communications between different stakeholders, disciplines and perspectives are very much welcome. As a forum for critical reflections on the current practice and policies, the conference encourages presenters to engage in discussions on the least studied aspects and unanswered questions of DIDR.
This theme will look into strengths and weaknesses of laws and policies, impracticalities and in sufficiencies, what works and what does not. Papers might explore the gaps between policy and practice, address the possibilities of having over-arching legal and policy frameworks or discuss the idea of ’success’ in the context of resettlement. Participants from international financial institutions as well as policymakers from across the world are welcome to explain their efforts and challenges in relation to their own policies.
Displacement and resettlement are taking place in various contexts including developed and developing countries, diverse regions and geographies and amongst urban, rural, indigenous, and mobile populations. This theme will examine the unknowns of DIDR in different contexts and compare and contrast its challenges and repercussions. Case specific studies as well as papers with a broader focus at regional levels are very much welcome.

This 3rd edition has been launched at the Thematic Session on Water Cooperation organized by the Government of Tajikistan at the Rio+20 Summit in Brazil.
The purpose of the Award is to promote efforts to fulfill international commitments made on water and water-related issues by 2015 through recognition of outstanding best practices that can ensure the long-term sustainable management of water resources and contribute to the achievement of internationally agreed goals and targets as contained in the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), Agenda 21 an the Johannesburg Plan of Implementation.
Best practices shall be aligned with the Water for Life Decade’s objectives. Best practices can focus on a variety of subjects such as Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM), adaptation to climate change in the water sector, improvements in water quality, promotion of water efficiency, improvements in water governance, establishment and management of protected areas, and creation of public awareness.

Alexander von Humboldt-Foundation’s International Climate Protection Fellowships
The Alexander von Humboldt-Foundation is accepting applications for the fourth round of International Climate Protection Fellowships which are offered to prospective leaders from transition and developing countries who work on climate protection and resource conservation issues in NGOs (as well as in the academica, business or government).
The fellowships provide an opportunity for selected candidates to come to Germany for a year to conduct a project dedicated to the sharing of knowledge, methods and techniques together with a host. This encourages the creation of a network in which German and foreign experts collaborate on a sustainable, international basis to combat climate change and its global consequences. The fellowships are funded under the Federal Environment Ministry’s International Climate Protection Initiative. There are 15 fellowships available for this.

World Health Organization scholarships open to journalists
Health journalists can apply for a fellowship.
Internews is partnering with the World Health Organization to launch fellowships for 10 journalists to attend the 11th World Conference on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion in New Zealand from September 28 – October 4, 2012.
Journalists from all developing countries can apply but priority is given to journalists working in the 10 Road Safety target countries identified by the World Health Organization: Brazil, Cambodia, China, Egypt, India, Kenya, Mexico, Russia, Turkey and Vietnam.
The theme of Safety 2012 is “Connecting pathways for a vibrant and safer future.” Held biennially under the auspices of WHO, the conference brings together the world's leading injury prevention and safety researchers, practitioners and advocates, to build knowledge and strengthen the fields of injury prevention and safety promotion worldwide.

$10,000 Grant at David Kato Vision & Voice Award in the field of Human Rights
The David Kato Vision & Voice Award is awarded annually to an individual who demonstrates courage and outstanding leadership in advocating for the sexual rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people, particularly in environments where these individuals face continued rejection, marginalization, isolation and persecution. The award will be accompanied by a one-time grant of $10,000. The award recipient will be invited to accept the award at a key annual event.
Nominations for the award are accepted for any individual whose leadership and life work has directly contributed to addressing the sexual rights of LGBTI people in their community. An individual can be self nominated or be nominated by an individual or organization familiar with the nominee’s work. Nominations must be submitted online and can be completed in English, French or Spanish.
Applications must be submitted by 31 August 2012 (23:59 GMT) and according to the nomination guidelines.

Asian Rural Women’s Coalition Call for Nominations
The Asian Rural Women’s Coalition (ARWC) has issued a call for nominations to commemorate 100th year of the International Women’s Day in March 2011 and in furthering its mission to strengthen the unity and advance the struggle of Asian rural women.
ARWC is inviting nominations for its special award Honouring 100 women to mark 100 years of Women’s Resistance in 2011. This special award honours 100 women from Asia who have displayed creativity in rural life, courage, empowerment, resistance in the face of crisis and disasters and who have tirelessly worked to improve the quality of life in rural communities.
Eligibility:
Nominees should be women and women’s groups currently active in rural life whose efforts have not yet been acknowledged by other awards. They may not nominate themselves.
The nominating organization or individual must have direct experience of the nominee’s work. The nominator may not nominate a family member, be a member of the nominated organization, nor can an organization nominate its senior officer (i.e. founder, president etc.). No more than 3 nominees may be presented by the same person/organization.
Nominations must include the following items:
Signed letter of nomination indicating how the nominator knows the nominee and for how long.
Biographical data on the nominee (full name, age, education, place of work, background) and a detailed history of the nominee’s creative project (written by the nominator) including her motivation, innovative aspects, any obstacles overcome, and the impact in the community. Stories and quotes from the nominees are also encouraged.
One signed endorsement letter from organizations or individuals other than the nominator and, if possible, additional supporting materials such as newspaper articles or publications.
A few labelled photographs clearly showing the nominee(s) for possible publication on ARWC website and other publications.

The Documentary Fund provides grants to filmmakers worldwide for projects that display innovative storytelling techniques, global relevance, contemporary social issues and potential for social engagement.
Sundance Institute Documentary Fund grants are announced twice a year. Since its inception, the Fund has supported more than 500 films in 61 countries.
Applications are open for two categories of projects: -Development funding is provided to projects that are between development and preproduction. Grant amounts for this category are up to $20,000. There is no reel required with an application, but clips, teasers, trailers, or images are highly encouraged. A previous work sample is required.
-Production/Post-production grants provide funds up to $50,000 to filmmakers in various stages of the production and post-production process. Applications are required to include continuously edited material that is approximately 20 to 75 minutes for the project being proposed. The reel should convey the narrative and aesthetic visual for the final film. If available for consideration, longer cuts and fine cuts may be submitted. A previous sample work must also be included with the application.
The fall deadline is July 10.
