Citizens worldwide can enter video or audio entries focusing on civic involvement and solidarity between generations.
The 2nd International Citizen Media Award competition is open to individuals, groups, associations, civil initiatives, producers, actors and editorial teams in the field of citizen media work created by private, non-commercial producers.
Entries may include individual products, short movie, movie in a television broadcast, video podcast - and audio - individual product, radio spot in a radio broadcast, podcast.
In the video category, the first-place winner will receive EU€1,000 (about US$1,330), the second-place winner will participate in an international media camp and the third-place will receive EU€300 (about US$400). In the audio category, the winner will receive EU€300 (about US$400).
Entries may be in English or the native language with English subtitles and translation and must have been created between August 2011 and July 2012. The deadline is July 31.

The Grants for Editorial Photography, sponsored by Getty Images, support compelling social, political and cultural stories. Grants of US$20,000 each will be given to four photojournalists. In addition, one grant will be awarded, in conjunction with The Chris Hondros Fund, for extraordinary news coverage of a current event.
Both professional and student photojournalists are encouraged to apply. There is also an opportunity for young photographers to receive mentoring and support through the emerging talent award. Applicants must be under the age of 25 or currently enrolled in a full time photojournalism program.
Judges include Whitney Johnson, the director of photography at The New Yorker and Kira Pollack, the director of photography at Time Magazine.

Women PeaceMakers program
Applications are now open for the Women PeaceMakers program, which is an eight-week residency at the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice (IPJ), located on the University of San Diego campus in San Diego, California.
Four peacemakers selected to participate in this residency. The program pairs each peacemaker with a Peace Writer and a documentary film team to document her story and best practices. Selected candidates give presentations on their work both at the IPJ and in the San Diego community and have opportunities to exchange ideas and approaches to peacemaking and justice, increasing their capacity to participate in conflict resolution and peacebuilding efforts and in post-conflict decision-making.
This is a program open to women who have been involved in either official or unofficial peace processes and who may be working at the grassroots, national or international level. We select women who have been active in efforts to secure a just peace, namely, through conflict resolution and civil society participation that is inclusive and honors human rights. Women PeaceMakers must:
Have experience working directly in peacemaking and/or human rights efforts at a grassroots, national or international level.
Speak sufficient English to relate personal experiences. Written English is not necessary.
Be in a position to apply what is learned and/or to share with others at the conclusion of the residency program.

The United Nations Voluntary Trust Fund on Contemporary Forms of Slavery
The United Nations Voluntary Trust Fund on Contemporary Forms of Slavery is now open to accepting proposals under its 2013 Call for Applications.
The Fund provides grants of up to $15,000 for projects aiming to provide humanitarian, legal and financial assistance to individuals whose human rights have been severely violated as a result of contemporary forms of slavery.
Contemporary forms of slavery include, inter alia, chattel slavery, serfdom, forced labour, debt bondage, the worst forms of child labour including children in armed conflict, forced and early marriage, sale of wives, widow inheritance, trafficking in persons, sexual slavery, sale of children.
Grants will be awarded to organizations providing direct assistance to victims of contemporary forms of slavery, including medical, psychological, legal, educational, social and economic assistance.
Applications from all regions will be accepted. All applications must be submitted in English, French or Spanish.
The Fund was established by the General Assembly in 1991 (A/RES/46/122) with the purpose to provide, through established channels of assistance, humanitarian, legal and financial aid to individuals who are victims of contemporary forms of slavery. The Fund is administrated by the Secretary General, who is advised by a Board of Trustees.

Nominations now open for Freedom to Publish Prize
The International Publishers Association (IPA) is calling for nominations for its annual Freedom to Publish Prize, which honours a person, organisation or institution that has shown courage in upholding freedom of expression and defending the freedom to publish. Nominations are due on 4 May 2012.
The winner will be announced on 11 June 2012 in Cape Town, South Africa. Last year's winner was Vietnamese underground publisher Bui Chat.

Grant will be offered to entities belonging to countries and contexts characterized by lack of respect for human rights and where fundamental freedoms are hampered and where there is limited room for political pluralism.
