Early to mid-career journalists and photojournalists working for regional or national newspapers in South Asia can apply for a fellowship.
The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) offers a media fellowship for journalists with 5-7 years' experience from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Fellows will research and publish at least 10 articles in English on issues concerning regional cooperation to raise greater awareness about local and national development priorities in SAARC member countries.
Fellowships last 4-6 months and include travel, an honorarium and a US$4,000 stipend.
Applicants must submit a resume, a sponsoring letter from an editor, five work samples and two references by April 30.

Photographers worldwide can apply for a US$5,000 grant to support a social documentary project.
The Manuel Rivera-Ortiz Foundation for International Photography aims to create an online showcase of outstanding photography worldwide and award a grant to one social documentary photographer to aid in the production or completion of a project.
Photos and proposed projects should be based on pressing social issues in developing nations or communities of poverty, health, oppression, war, famine, religious/political persecution and similar issues.
Applicants must submit one contact sheet with up to 15 images, an essay describing their work, a project proposal, resume and headshot by May 31.

Project Inspire for Women’s Empowerment: $25,000 Grant Opportunity
The Singapore Committee for UN Women and MasterCard have come together to organize this joint initiative called “Project Inspire: 5 Minutes to Change the World.” This competition aims to help young changemakers create a better world of opportunities for women and girls in Asia, Pacific, the Middle East and Africa.
The competition seeks entries from 18-35 year olds to submit a 5-minute platform to pitch their inspired idea to the world. National Geographic film contest
Journalists and filmmakers worldwide can submit films on indigenous and underrepresented minority cultures to a festival.
National Geographic presents the All Roads Film Project, created to provide an international platform for indigenous and underrepresented minority-culture artists to share their cultures, stories and perspectives through the power of film and photography.
Categories include long and short documentary, live action short, dramatic feature, animation and music video.
Entrants must submit a brief essay describing your film, what your minority culture or indigenous community means to you, if applicable, and two DVD copies of your film by April 23.

2012 Wall Street Journal Asia Fellowship at New York University
NEW YORK (Feb. 21, 2012) – The Wall Street Journal, in association with New York University, is now accepting applications for the 2012 Wall Street Journal Asia Fellowship. The Fellowship provides promising journalists from Asia with the opportunity to participate in the three-semester masters program in the Business & Economic Reporting program at NYU’s Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute.
The deadline is March 21, 2012.
Candidates must have at least one year’s experience working in Asia at an English-language publication and be fluent in English and at least one Asian language. A team of Journal editors working in conjunction with NYU professors will select one or more fellows for the program.
Entering its ninth year, the Fellowship has enabled a number of working journalists in Asia to come to New York to study journalism at a top research university. The BER program features a unique interdisciplinary curriculum of both journalism and MBA courses. With a low 5:1 student-to-faculty ratio, the program provides intellectual rigor as well as hands-on mentoring for 15 hand-picked students.
The Fellowship covers tuition and fees for two of the three semesters of the program, as well as a stipend of US$22,000 to cover travel to New York, living expenses, at least one trip home, as well as incidental costs such as textbooks. Previous fellows have gone on to staff positions at the Journal and other major news organizations in the U.S. and Asia.

Government of Pakistan Announces Jinnah Educational Scholarships 2012 for Srilankan Youth
The High Commission of Pakistan in Srilanka invites applications for Jinnah Scholarship from deserving Sri Lankan students pursuing their studies at O’ Levels and A Levels. The Scholarships will be awarded according to the final list of merits among all the application.The Government of Pakistan is awarding Jinnah Scholarships for Srilankan students for past 6 years through Pakistan High Commission in Sri Lanka.The scholarships are named after the great statesman and leader of the Sub Continent, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, who is the founder of Pakistan.
The scholarships are awarded on the basis of a strict criteria involving merit and need for financial assistance. Under this programme, each successful student receives stipend of SL Rs. 24,000 as assistance for one year for following their studies. The Government of Pakistan is awarding Jinnah Educational Scholarships since 2005 and so far over 800 Sri Lankan Students have benefited from this scheme. During the past 7 years over Rs. 20 million worth of scholarships have been awarded for promoting the Sri Lankan youth and the education sector in Sri Lanka.
During year 2011 the Government of Pakistan awarded SL Rs. 2.56 million worth of educational scholarships to 107 bright Sri Lankan O/L and A/L students under Jinnah Educational Scholarship programme.
Application forms for submitting nominations for award of scholarships may be collected from the High Commission located at 53/6 Gregory’s Road, Colombo 7. The Last date for submission of applications is 19 March 2012.

The International Women's Media Foundation presents the Elizabeth Neuffer Fellowship, named for the 1998 IWMF Courage in Journalism Award winner and Boston Globe correspondent who was killed in Iraq in May 2003.
The selected female journalist spends an academic year in a tailored program with access to MIT's Center for International Studies and media outlets like The Boston Globe and The New York Times.
2011 Fellow Jackee Budesta Batanda of Uganda reported on acid attacks of women as “revenge crimes” and the targeted murders of albinos.
Excellent written and spoken English skills are required. The fellow receives a stipend and expenses like airfare and housing are covered. Apply by April 30.
